Bharat Jodo Yatra Live Updates: Congress’ Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary died on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, following which the march was halted.

He was 76.

The two-time MP was taking part in the Rahul Gandhi-led march in Phillaur in Jalandhar where he fainted, said senior party leader Partap Singh Bajwa, who was also marching in the yatra.

He said Chaudhary was rushed to a hospital in Phagwara in an ambulance.

The yatra was halted following Chaudhary’s death and it is learnt that Gandhi has gone to the hospital.

Earlier in the morning, the yatra resumed from Ladhowal in Ludhiana as part of its Punjab leg.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed grief over the death of the Congress MP.

“I am deeply saddened at the untimely death of Congress Member of Parliament from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chaudhary,” he said in a tweet in Punjabi.

Former Congress leader Amarinder Singh also condoled Chaudhary’s death.

Shraddha Walkar case: Bones cut with saw

A saw was used to cut up the bones of Shraddha Walkar, killed by her live-in partner in May last year, the autopsy report has revealed. The Delhi Police have got the forensic analysis report of her 23 bones which were recovered during the course of investigation. According to sources, it is called Osteological study or biophysical study of the bone pieces which help the police in such cases. It has been learnt in the report that her bones were cut with the help of a saw and similar sharp edged weapon. The post-mortem analysis was conducted in AIIMS on Tuesday.

India logs 179 Covid cases in a day

  • India saw a single-day rise of 179 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases have declined to 2,227, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

  • The total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 4.46 crore (4,46,80,936) while the death toll was 5,30,726 with one death reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

  • A decrease of 30 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in 24 hours.
